Kronborg, Hamlet´s fotified castle (in Shakespeare´s drama called Elsinore), is located in the town of Helsingor about 40 km to the North of Copenhagen. It was built by the king Erik VII. in 1420 and it is one of the most important Renaissance castles in Northern Europe (in UNESCO's World Heritage Sites list in 2000). The interior is simply furnished by mostly Dutch furniture from the 17th century. The Castle´s Chapel has a carved gold plating wooden interior. There are also casemates, which served as a warehouse for food as well as a prison for political prisoners. Here you can see the national symbol - a statue of the sleeping Danish king Holger the Dane.

He was a hypochondriac and reportedly an unbearable man, but his work has enriched the lives of milions children and adults alike.

Every day in Copenhagen you can experience the changing of the Royal Guards called "Den Kongelige Livgarde". They march from their barracks in Gothersgade 100 by Rosenborg Castle through the streets of Copenhagen and end up at Amalienborg, where the changing of the guard takes place at 12:00 noon. The route varies. There are three types of watches: King's watch, lieutenant watch and palace watch. A king's watch is when Her Majesty the Queen takes up residence in Christian IX's Palace. This watch is the largest one and the only one with the Danish flag present. A king's watch is under the command of a major or a captain, and the guards leave from The Royal Guard barracks in Gothersgade 100 at 11:27.

Located on the small island of Slotsholmen, Christiansborg is a former Royal palace. It used to be a settlement of Danish kings until 1794. Nowadays it is the seat of the Danish Parliament (Folketinget), the Prime Minister's Office and the Supreme Court. Also, several parts of the palace are used by the monarchy, including the Royal Reception Rooms, the Palace Chapel and the Royal Stables. Guided tours are available. Tourists can see a fancy interiors, beautiful gardens and visit a highest tower in Copenhagen where is a fantastic 360° panoramatic view around the city, it is impressive especially at night. You can get there for free and in the Tower´s restaurant you can taste the traditional Danish cuisine. Next popular tourist attraction is a changing of guards. Open hours: Tuesday-Sunday 10:00-17:00.

The Little Mermaid statue, sitting on a rock at Langelinie in the harbor, is one of the TOP tourist attractions in Copenhagen, and has become a symbol of both Copenhagen and Denmark. The Mermaid is from the fairy tale of Danish writter H. C. Andersen and was created in bronze by Edvard Eriksen and unveiled l in 1913. Eriksen was commissioned in 1909 by Carl Jacobsen (a Danish brewer, art collector and philanthropist, the son of J. C. Jacobsen, who founded the brewery Carlsberg). While the story by H.C. Andersen was more than enough to make this mermaid statue known around the world, the Disney movies have only added to the fame and the appeal of this statue. With some differences, there are many copies of the statue around the world.

The self-guided excursion in Carlsberg Visitor Centre takes about 1,5 hrs. In 10,000 m2 you will explore brewing history (former production) through two centuries. The tour includes a visit of the dray horses stables which used to be pulling brewery carts, and the peaceful Jacobsen's Garden with its collection of sculptures. The tour ends on the 1st floor at the Jacobsen brewhouse. In the centre's bar you can exchange the vouchers handed to you at the beginning of the tour for a beer or soft drink of your choice. Worth visiting even if you're not interested in beer, simply to learn more about fascinating arts patron and entrepreneur Carl Jacobsen. Open hours: Tue-Sun 10am-5pm

The art museum Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek includes the personal collection of Carl Jacobsen (1842–1914), the son of the founder of the Carlsberg Breweries. In the museum you can find antique sculptures from the ancient age from Egypt, Rome, Greece, as well as more modern sculptures such as a collection of Rodin. In addition, there are paintings of French impressionists (Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Degas and Cézanne) and Post-impressionists (van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Bonnard) as well as Danish Golden Age paintings. The museum's collection also includes all the bronze sculptures of Degas, including the series of dancers.
