Copenhagen Overview
Copenhagen is called in Danish København, which means merchant harbor. It´s the capital and the largest city of Denmark. The city is part of Øresund Region and it´s located on eastern Sjælland Island and partly on the island of Amager. Copenhagen was first mentioned in history in 11th century and became the capitol of Denmark in 15th century. Like every larger city Copenhagen consists of several areas and each of them has a specific atmosphere. Cycling is the most economical and fun way to explore the city, it has around 400 km of cycle paths.

For longer distances you can use a Copenhagen metro, which was opened in 2000. In the same year, Copenhagen was connected to Swedish city Molmö by the Øresund Bridge. The bridge is the longest combined rail and road bridge in Europe.
Maybe you didn´t know that...
- According to the UN's 2013 World Happiness Report, the Danes are the happiest people on the planet. (By contrast, Americans aren´t too happy. The USA is in the 17th position, between Mexico and Ireland.)
- Danes are clever inventors. One of the biggest invention LEGO (1932) remains one of the world's most popular toys.
- Copenhagen is one of the greenest capitals: it has electric buses, recycling-crazy citizens, clean harbors and shops selling clothes made from organic bamboo.
- A full 64% of the city's hotel rooms are certified as eco-friendly.
- 3/4 of the food served in public institutions is organic.
- Copenhagen was awarded „The 2014 European Green Capital“. It is a prize for cities with consistently high environmental standards.
- By 2025, Copenhagen plans to be the world's first carbon-neutral capital.
The attractions which you shouldn´t miss in Copenhagen:
- Tivoli Gardens - it´s the second largest amusement park in the world. Tivoli offers mix of attraction, gardens and you can even find there Glass Hall Theatre, Concert Hall or the Pantomime Theatre. One of the most popluar attraction is wooden roller coaster, which was bulit in 1914, but it´s filled with more wild rides. So let loose yourself there!
- Carlsberg brewery. Carlsberg is one of the world famous beer and the brewery is located in Valby, a suburb of Copenhagen. You will get an opportunity to see how the Carlsberg Beer is made and get some information about the history. Once you´ll finish your tour, you can enjoy your beer at the brewery bar.
- Christiansborg Palace - a seat of the Danish Parliament and the Supreme Court. Several parts of the Palace are used by the monarchy, especially the Royale Reception Rooms, which are used for official functions, audiences and meeting of the council of state. The history of the Palace dates back to the 12th century, but due to several fires and damages, the present building was finished in Neo-baroque style, in 1928. The Tower of the Christiansborg Palace is the highest tower of Copenhagen, and offers incredible view of the city. The height of the Tower is 106 m and it´s 40 cm higher then the city hall tower. You can get there for free and in the Tower´s restaurant you can taste the traditional Danish cuisine.
