Geneva Overview
Situated at the lake between the Alps and the mountain range called Jura, the French-speaking city Geneva has one of the Europe´s most beautiful sceneries. After Zurich, it is the most populous city in Switzerland (191.964 inhabitants) and Europe's most international city (44% of its inhabitants are not Swiss). Geneva is also the capital of the Republic and Canton of Geneva. The city is worldwide centre for diplomacy, it is home of numerous international organizations and the major banking center; it houses the headquarters of some of the world's largest banks.

As a place of power and influence Geneva is the European headquarters of the United Nations (UNO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR), the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), World Meteorological Organization (OMM), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and the European Organization for Nuclear Research, among others.
Switzerland has three official languages: French, German and Italian. French is the official language spoken in Geneva, but most citizens speak fluent English. English is also the official language of most multinational and of international organizations based in Geneva.

- Flower clock (L'horloge fleurie) - a symbol of Geneva (French: Horloge fleurie), located at the edge of the "Jardin Anglais" (English garden)
- Water Jet at the lake Geneva (Jet d'Eau) - one of the city's most famous landmarks; one of the largest fountains in the world, 140 m high
- Chillon Castle (Château de Chillon) - an architectural jewel with over 1000 years of history, located between the shores of Lake Geneva and the Alps.
- Duke of Brunswick Monument - an impressive mausoleum that was built 1879 in neo-gothic style for the Duke of Brunswick, who was an eccentric noble figure, linguist, musician and knight.
- St. Pierre Cathedral - the imposing Romanesque-Gothic church with a Neoclassical facade, where John Calvin gave his inspiring sermons during the mid-16th century.
- Lavax Wíne Region - internationally famous as a terraced wine-growing region on the shores of Lake Geneva.
