Hotel F6

Fabininkatu 6, Helsinki, Finland

webhotelf6.fi phone+358 9 68999 666

The hotel is very central but tucked away in a quiet street. The Senate Square and landmark Lutheran Cathedral are within a 5 minute stroll. The reception area, tastefully furnished and spacious, has an instantly breezy feel that puts you at ease on arrival in this converted government ministry building. Apart from a basement gym, bicycles for loan, and the relaxing Runar bar, the hotel does not offer much in the way of facilities. A total of 66 rooms range from Standard through Superior to Deluxe, but they all have plush beds, elegant wooden floors and furniture.

Solo Sokos Hotel Torni

Yrjönkatu 26, Helsinki, Finland

websokoshotels.fi phone+358 20 1234604

It was built in 1931 as Helsinki’s tallest 12-storeys building and exudes character. Although situated in a relatively quiet backstreet, the Torni is very central being just 10 minutes on foot from the main railway station. The Art Nouveau theme is most conspicuous in the wallpaper motifs and furniture of the Kylikki wing that was built in 1903 and predates the main hotel. Rooms in the tower section from floors 7 to 11 are not big but decorated in bright, light tones and offer great city views. Single rooms have shower only and larger rooms have baths. The Torni’s three bars are some of the best-known in Helsinki.

Katajanokka hotel

Merikasarminkatu 1a, Helsinki, Finland

webhotelkatajanokka.fi phone+358 9 686 450

Having split from an international chain, this is now one of Helsinki’s few independent hotels. It is situated in the island Katajanokka, in a building of former prison from 1837, in a quiet residential area, the 15-minute walk or a few minute by tram to the city centre. The prison theme and block layout, with bars across the room windows and original stairways, is maintained, even the prison chapel still functions and is popular for weddings. There is a small gym, sauna and bicycles available for rent.
