The renowned cemetary was founded in 1869 on the grounds of Vyšehrad Castle. It is the final resting place of many composers, artists, sculptors, writers, and those from the world of science and politics (e.g. Alfonz Mucha, Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák...). The centrepiece of the cemetery, called Slavín, was designed by Antonín Wiehl, and it is a large and notable tomb located within Vyšehrad cemetery.
