Tower of London

London EC3N 4AB

Since 1078, when the first stone was laid by William the Conquerer, the Tower of London has been the seat of British government and the residence of kings, the site of political intrigue, and the repository of the Crown Jewels. It has been an armory, a prison for members of court, lords and ministers, clergymen and knights, and the site of many executions and assassinations. A complex, and imposing fortress, it is the window to a violent and complex history. The Tower of London is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
