Santa Justa elevator

Rua do Ouro, 1150-060 Lisboa

Built from iron in neo-gotical style in 1900-1902 by engineer Raul Mesnier de Ponsard, Santa Justa lift (called also Elevador do Carmo) is a representative example of Portuguese architecture. The lift is located in the street Santa Justa, is 45 metres high and equipped by two cabins with wood interior. Every cabin has a capacity for 24 persons. On the top floor, which is accessible by a spiral staircase, there is a terrace, which offers a beautiful view of the castle Lisbon, Rossio Square and the Baixa district. At present, the elevator is used primarily as a tourist attraction. The lift is open daily from 7 am to 9:45 (10:45 in summer) but be ready for a long queue.

The elevator Santa Justa is easy to reach, it is in a real city center, near Figueira square and Rossi square. From the top floor you can visit Archaeological museum in Convent of Carmo, otherwise there is not too many things what to do. The view from the tower is beautiful but the same or even better view is from the Castle. Tickets cost 5 euro. If you miss this attraction, you won´t loose anything.
