Den Glade Gris is a gastopub offering homemade food (especially pork), beer and other good drinks in a casual atmosphere, either inside or outside. Highly recommend reservations, especially during dinner hours. One of the must have is the pig knuckle, which is tender and succulent, and the whale appetizer.

Schroder is one of the few remaining classic restaurants (opened in 1925) that offer traditional Norwegian delicacies. Relaxed atmosphere with a good mix of regulars, local people and visitors. The restaurant is also known as the favourite hangout for detective Harry Hole in Jo Nesbø's popular crime novels.

Underwater is a charming two-story pub with aquarium-style interior and raftered ceilings. The pub is known as the "second home" to detective Harry Hole in Jo Nesbø's popular crime novels. The mezzanine has small tables and a bar from the 1880s. Downstairs there is a fireplace and a chess/backgammon table. Underwater offers many beers on tap and has a big selection of wines and non-alcoholic options. The pub does not serve food, but you can order takeaway from three neighbourhood restaurants or bring your own food. Opera nights every Tuesday and Thursday with performances by professional opera singers.

Stortingsgata 24-26, Oslo

The noise of voices is overwhelming, but the atmosphere is simply great despite that. One of Oslos best and probably the most well-known restaurant in the city. The interior reminds you of Cafe Central in Wien, but most of the similarities end there. This is the only café left in the city centre. There is also another advantage of this place - it's one of the few which serves real Norwegian cuisine - even if the dish is not Norwegian itself it will be prepared in a way as Norwegians would expect it to be.

Both the service, the venue and the food is great. It is a good place for couples or friend as the dishes are served in small portions, made for sharing. The waiters always have good wine recommendations for the food. This is a classic case of a restaurant trying to live up to its decor, trendy dishes served in a trendy way.

This is a busy place even on a Sunday night. The decor is minimalist modern with grand views of the harbor. The local oysters were fresh and salty. It is located right on the waterfront pier overlooking the water and fortress which is stunning in the evening. Fish restaurant with a very large selection and a little priced.

In two-Michelin Maaemo restaurant is recommended to book a seat in advance. It is renowned for its organic and foraged Norwegian ingredients. It is expensive but if you can afford to do it well worth it. Each dish is introduced in an inclusive informative and unhurried way, lunch can easily take 4 hours.

Located downtown, very close to the National Gallery, Fjord is one of the highly rated, luxurious restaurants in Oslo. You can find here quite fancy and cosy ambience and very delicious food for real gourmets. Like all good restaurants, portions are rather small so you have to order more dishes. Prices are slightly high but on average for Oslo. The kitchen is open, all the chefs are with clean, tidy uniforms. The stuff (blond waitresses) is very nice and smiling. Definitely worth a visit.
