Founded in the 10th century, the Benedictine abbey of Santa Maria de Montserrat is located about 50 km northwest of Barcelona on the 1.200 meter high mountain Montserrat. One of the most value treasures is the statue of the Catalonia´s patron - Black Madonna from the 12th century. Almost daily at noon, you can hear in the monastery a boy´s choir (about 50 boys) from the "Escolania de Montserrat", the monastary's school. In the Museum you can see works of major artists such as Dali, El Greco, Monet or Giordano. In addition, you can see liturgical and archaeological exhibits. There is a restaurant in the lower parts of the grounds of the monastery.
