The Grand Ducal Palace is the official residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. The Palace used to be the city hall from 1572 to 1795, the seat of the prefecture of the Département des Forêts in 1795, and then the headquarters of the Luxembourg Government in 1817. It is open for the public only in August. It is recommend to buy tickets at least a few days in advance, especially if you would like an English tour. Tickets can be purchased at the Luxembourg Tourist Office closeby at Place Guillaume. The tour is telling the history of the Luxembourg from the point of view of the loyal family and objects and painting surrounding the Palace.
