Louvre Museum

Louvre Museum, Paris, France

One of the largest and most important museums in the world is housed in the heart of Paris, in the expansive Louvre Palace and includes a collection of over 1 million works of art. The collection was first established in the 16th century as the private collection of King Francis I. One of the works of art he purchased was the now famous da Vinci´s Mona Lisa painting. Beside this picture the most precious works of art in the museum are the Venus of Milo, the Nike of Samothrake and the Dying Slave by Michelangelo.

Visit to Paris without spending half a day in Louvre would be meanigless. And what is most amazing that Louvre which had it first structures built in 12th Century had the guts to turn to American architect IM Pei to design something unique. So in 1989 the "Pyramid" was born and despite of early contraversy it has been the focal point of Louvre Museum. In order to see what is there to see, one would need 2 days. One day for the most important "stuff" might do it, but shorter visit than 1 day and you are risking that something unique, rare and priceless will be unseen by you. So make sure that you can devote whole day to your visit and you will not be sorry
