St. Paul Church (Paulskirche)

Paulsplatz 11, 60311 Frankfurt am Main, Germany

The Paulskirche - important political symbolism in Germany - was built between 1789-1833 at the center of Old Town. By 1849 it had become the seat of the 1st freely elected Frankfurt parliament, which gathered in the building's circular hall. Today St. Paul's is no longer used as a church, instead it became a venue used for various events. The most well-known is the annual awarding of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade during the Frankfurt Book Fair. In 1963, US President John F. Kennedy gave a major speech here during his visit to Germany.
