Reina Sophia Museum

Calle de Santa Isabel, 52, 28012 Madrid

webmuseoreinasofia.es phone+34 917 74 10 00

Madrid's 18th century hospital was beautifully remodelled and converted into a museum Reina Sophia in 1992, with two panoramic glass lifts standing out in the façade. Many of its art works were transferred from the nearby Prado, and it's now a treasure-house of contemporary and modern art. Two of the floors are devoted to temporary exhibits, while the other two are for the permanent collection which also covers Abstract, Pop, and Minimal Art movements. The highlight is the 20th century's most famous painting Picasso's "Guernica" and "Woman in Blue". Miró and Dali are two other influential artists well represented in the collection.

Cable car - Teleférico de Madrid

Paseo del Pintor Rosales, Madrid

weben.wikipedia.org

One of the best way how to explore Madrid is to see this city from a bird's eye view by taking the cable car "Teleférico de Madrid". This popular tourist attraction dates back to 1969. The cabins reach a max. height of 40 meters above the ground, and the entire 2.5 km ride takes just over 10 min. The journey starts on the Paseo del Pintor Rosales street (Argüelles Metro station), and leades over the River Manzanares and into the Casa de Campo park. This way you will see e.g. the Plaza de España, the Egyptian temple of Debod, Parque del Oeste Park with La Rosaleda (a very beautiful rose garden where annually in May a rose festival is held), the Principe Pio Metro Station, the Torrespaña communication tower, the Royal Palace, Almudena Cathedral and the Chapel of San Antonio de la Florida (with its grand pictorial decoration painted by Francisco de Goya). At the end of the journey, you can have a paella and glass of sangria in a restaurant and bar complex where is one of the best panoramic views of Madrid.
